International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is a United Nations event that is celebrated year on the 3rd December.
This event is aimed at promoting the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities by celebrating the achievents towards inclusion and emphasize on the challen
The 2015 theme is: Inclusion matters: access and empowerment for people of all abilities.
Worldwide, an estimate of 1 billion of the world’s inhabitants are people with disabilities and in Rwanda its approximately 5% of 10.5 million people.
UWEZO Youth Empowerment joined Rwanda to celebrate the event in 4 different sites.
- National Celebrations held in Musanze District at Ubworoherane Stadium-Northern Province
- In Ngororero district as invited by the Ngororero District Authorities-Western Province
- In Gasabo District where UWEZO was born and registered-Kigali City
- In Kicukiro District where UWEZO Headquaters are situated. In Kicukiro District, UWEZO financially contributed to the event and paid money for medical insurance for 20 vulnerable persons with disabilities.
We are grateful for the active participation of youth with disabilities across the country and encourage them to keep their hard working and foster inclusion.
